When asked to paint a Helleborus, I said "A What?" Upon researching, I found that I knew this flower and had taken pictures of it numerous times without knowing its name. It is usually difficult to get a good photo of a Helleborus because they typically hang their heads. All Hellebores are poisonous. They come in a whole range of colors...White, Green, Pink, Red and Violet. The better known of this species is the Christmas Rose, pure white and blooms through the snow. Then there is the Niger, which is a dull brownish-greenish-violet. Very interesting coloring. The species I decided on is called the Lenten Rose. It has colorful yellow-green petals with red violet spots. This five-petal flower seems rather stiff until the crazy center opens up with loose abandon...A Phyllis Diller Hairdo!
